Effect of Ploughing Techniques on Water Use and Yield of Rice in Maugo Small-Holder Irrigation Scheme, Kenya

The objective of this study was to determine the effect paddy rice ploughing techniques on water use and yield crop, as well efficiency for growing in small-holder irrigation schemes. conducted at a farmer’s field Powo B sub-block Maugo Irrigation Scheme. period from July 2019 January 2020, which is season. experimental site located vicinity Olare Shopping Centre, Kamenya Sub-location, Kochia East Location, Ward, Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County, Nyanza Region, Kenya scheme Kenya. In study, four tillage practices were applied: ox-plough, conventional hand hoe tractor ploughing. results showed that ox-ploughing consumed highest amount 1240 mm. 0.49 kg/m3 5.7 tons/ha observed Use technique increased yields by 20 percent, compared ox-ploughing.
